Privacy policy
Spendwise is operated by Tech Nuttiez OPC Private Limited ("we", "us"). This policy explains what we collect when you use the Spendwise app and this website, why we collect it, and what control you have over it.
The short version: we collect what's needed to calculate your budget and nothing we don't use. We do not sell your data, we do not share it with advertisers, and we do not use your financial data to build advertising profiles.
1. What we collect
Account information
When you sign in with Apple we receive your email address and, if you choose to share it, your name. If you use Apple's "Hide My Email", we only ever see the relay address. You may also set a username so friends can find you.
Financial information you enter or connect
- Transactions — merchant name, amount, date, category and any note you add
- Your income, recurring bills, savings goals and category budgets
- Bill splits, and which friends you split them with
Connected bank accounts (optional)
If you connect a bank account, we use Plaid Inc. to establish that connection. Plaid collects your banking credentials directly — we never see or store them. Plaid returns an access token plus transaction and balance data, which we store to populate your budget. Plaid's own handling of your data is governed by the Plaid End User Privacy Policy.
Gmail access (optional)
If you turn on automatic logging, we ask for Google's gmail.readonly permission. We use
it solely to find purchase receipts and order confirmations and turn them into transactions in your
budget. We do not read, index or store unrelated email.
Google API Services disclosure. Spendwise's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Gmail data is used only to provide the automatic transaction logging feature, is never sold, is never used for advertising, and is not used to train generalised AI or machine learning models.
Device and usage information
- A push notification token, if you allow notifications
- Your app version, device type and locale
- Anonymous events about which screens and paywalls you saw, via Superwall
2. What we don't collect
- We don't collect your banking passwords — Plaid handles authentication
- We don't collect your contacts, photos, precise location or microphone audio. Voice logging uses Apple's on-device speech recognition; we receive only the resulting text
- We don't use third-party advertising or cross-app tracking SDKs
3. How we use it
- To calculate your daily allowance, budgets, rollover and savings progress
- To categorise transactions and parse receipts and voice input
- To deliver bill splits and notifications you asked for
- To operate subscriptions and to keep the service secure and working
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
4. AI processing
To categorise transactions, parse receipts and answer questions in the in-app chat, we send the relevant text — and, for chat, a summary of your current budget and spending — to Anthropic's Claude API. Anthropic processes this as our service provider and, under their commercial terms, does not use it to train their models. We don't send your name, email, bank credentials or full email inbox.
5. Who else touches your data
- Apple — sign-in, subscription purchases and push delivery
- Google — Gmail access, only if you enable it
- Plaid — bank connections, only if you enable them
- Anthropic — AI categorisation and chat
- Superwall — paywall delivery and subscription analytics
- Railway — application hosting and storage
Each acts as our processor and is bound to use your data only to provide their service to us.
6. Where your data lives
Your data is stored on servers operated by our hosting provider and may be processed in countries other than your own, including the United States. Where required, we rely on standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards for those transfers.
7. Retention
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. Delete your account from Settings → Account → Delete account and your budget, transactions, splits and connected-account tokens are removed. Some records may persist briefly in encrypted backups, and we may retain the minimum needed to meet legal or accounting obligations.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, to withdraw consent, and to complain to a supervisory authority. You can disconnect Gmail or a bank at any time in the app. To exercise any of these rights, email technuttiez@gmail.com and we'll respond within 30 days.
9. Security
Data is encrypted in transit using TLS. Access tokens are stored server-side and are never exposed to other users. No system is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect your information using industry-standard measures.
10. Children
Spendwise is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.
11. Changes
We'll update this page when this policy changes and revise the date at the top. Material changes will be announced in the app before they take effect.
